How to be achieve a Healthy Weight?

Dieting is not the way to become slim and healthy because I suspect you have been on several diets before. You lose it, and then shortly afterwards, it all comes right back to where you started or even a bit more. It’s disheartening and frustrating. You might even get a bit angry with yourself. These feelings lead you to want to soothe yourself, and what happens? You buy some chocolate or ice cream or a cake - some little treat to make you feel better. Just notice now, you are not buying these or taking them out of the cupboard because you are hungry. It is because you want to make yourself feel better. As you can see, this is a vicious cycle. It is not going to support you in achieving your goal of a healthy weight.

Why make Friends with your Appetite?

As you think about your appetite now, would you say you are friends, enemies, or you don’t really pay any attention to it? The great thing is when you make friends with your appetite, you know when you are hungry, and even more importantly, you also know when you feel satisfied, and so you stop eating. Slim people with a healthy weight pay attention to their appetite and so only eat then they are physically hungry and not when they are emotionally hungry. They satisfy their emotional needs in other ways.

Make a Weekly Healthy Food Plan

If you go into the supermarket, local shop or farmer’s market with no plan at all for what you are going to eat for the week, you may find that you buy food that is not as health-giving as you might like. Especially if you are hungry, you’ll probably find that you buy too much as well. So the day before you go shopping, check the fridge, freezer, and store cupboards to see what you have. Anything out of date throw it away. Decide on a menu for the week, make a list and shop only for the items required.

Enrol Support

You know the saying “a problem shared is a problem halved”. To achieve your healthy weight, share your goal and attendant struggles with your family and friends. Ask them to become your cheerleader, to provide support and encouragement. They will understand when you choose not to eat a second helping, or_________________(input here anything you’d like to let go) so you gain your healthy weight and maintain it.

Don’t Expect it to be Easy

Achieving your healthy weight can take a considerable length of time. Be ready to commit yourself to this journey and to enjoying the journey. After all, you are becoming healthier day by day, week by week, etc. If you hit a pothole, take a wrong turn or get lost going around a roundabout, just know, you have the power to get back on track. Resume your journey, and continue towards your healthy weight destination.

Healthy Weight is a Lifestyle

I just mentioned the word ‘destination’. Now you may have thought that I meant; the end of the road - your weight goal. And in one way, it is the end, because after you have befriended your appetite and are aware of the messages, it is sending you. You will find your whole way of thinking about food and eating has shifted. You now care about the quality of the food you are eating, its nutritious and health-giving values. You now receive the messages loud and clear. You eat when you are physically hungry and when you are satisfied, you stop eating. Enjoy this lifestyle shift.
